An artist becomes popular when his/her songs do well and they are the ones who are mostly in

the eye of the public. Add to that numerous performances across the length and breadth of the country and beyond; and it’s the singers who most often than not grab the limelight. We are not complaining! Good for them! However, what everyone tends to miss here is that behind the success of any artist there are many people who have equally contributed to their successes. Remember? Besides countless others such as the sound engineer, the flute player, the one responsible for the mixing etc, there is a lyricist as well. A song is as good as the words included in it! No doubt about it! Because of numerous grievances that people come to us with regarding this matter, we have had no choice but to talk about it.
If it would not have been for the lyricist then the artist as such would never have known what success and popularity was all about. It is because of the songs that they have written down that the ones singing them are where they are in the first place. However, in the long run, once the artist becomes popular, the lyricist because of whom s/he became famous is normally forgotten into the obscure corners of some musical write ups. They are hardly even mentioned anywhere else! Well, sometimes they are mentioned on the album covers (at times, funny yet true their names do not appear altogether) but should this be the end of what they actually deserve. Besides this, FM stations and TV channels, hardly make an effort to mention the actual creators of the songs. How fair is it?
The reality is that no singer would have achieved the kind of success they have without the lyricist to write good quality songs for him/her. It is because of their effort that we have been blessed with beautiful numbers. Better late than never, we think that the lyricists should be given credit where due so they too are encouraged to write better songs in the future. What say?! Let’s talk about it…its high time we did that!
