Child Hood
I was born on Shrawan 12, 2035 BS in Annapurna Village, Bhojpur to Purushottam Mukarung and Ganga Devi Mukarung. My Elder brother Parash Mukarung is a musician and besides him, I have one elder and a younger sister to me. I spent my entire childhood in my village. I did my schooling from Annapurna School from where I also did my SLC. Fur further studies, I joined Janta Multiple Campus, Itahari from where I completed my IA Studies. Since, I wanted to pursue my career in music; I came to Kathmandu in 2055 BS. I have done my junior diploma in music from Illahabad.
I used to be a very mischievous kid. I simply used to love playing with my friends. I was also a cooperative person as a kid, I have been told. Once, when we were in the fields picking up some beans, I accidentally injured my leg and had to bandage it. Due to the pain, I was just not able to stretch my leg. This happened during Dashain and I might have been seven or eight years old. Because of the festive occasion and keeping with the tradition, a swing was built in our village too and I badly wanted to play. Although, I was not feeling well and my leg was hurting badly, I wanted to play the swing and went for it. Surprisingly, after a couple of swings, my leg started feeling alright I still remember the incident.
Entry in the Music Field
I come from a musical back ground. My father is a well-known artist and my uncle Bulu Mukarung is an established musician in Nepal. My brother parash is also a composer. While in school, I used to participate in cultural programs, which continued while I was in college too. When I came to Kathmandu, the same year, I participated at a Modern Singing Competition organized by Radio Nepal. The ones who were selected for the top ten didn’t have to go through voice tests because of which I didn’t have to appear for any. After this, for two years I learned music at Do Re Me. While I was learning music,in 2056 BS, I got an opportunity to record a song titled “Basanta Lagyo Kyarey” for a collection album of my brother. This song was recorded at Multi Track Studio of Radio Nepal. Meanwhile, I also started working on my debut album and in 2059 BS; I released my first solo album “Bishwasko Bandhan” in the market. However, this album was not noticed by everyone but was able to introduce me as an artist. After this album, I got a chance to sing in Nepali movies, in which I have done playback singing, are ‘Majhi Dai’, ‘Nam Ke Ho’, ’Khola Wari Khola Pari’ and ‘Anagarik’ among others. My second album “Success” was released in 2062 BS. Songs in the album like “Mero Mutu Bhantheu Malai” and “Timi Bina” have been well received by people as well as the music circles. Recently just a couple of days before I released my third album “Mahol” I have start getting good response from music circle in the short period of album release. I have done musical programs in many places in Nepal and have also been to Singapore and Korea for a performance.
I have been doing music for the last 10 years and till date; I have not bagged any award as such. At the 8th Annual Image Award, my song was nominated in the category of National feelings. The song is called “Aama Phernu Parcha” and during that time when this song was out, Radio Nepal had banned it from broadcasting from their station.
I think I am a very cooperative person and I am also very honest. I don’t like hurting the sentiments of others. However, I have a very short temper and when I lose it I start screaming. I trust my friends a lot. My negative aspect is that I have this awful habit of reaching home late. Besides this, I leave it to the others to judge me.
Love and Marriage
Love is feeling. Without it, I don’t think we can even imagine this world. On the other hand, I think marriage is the unification of two hearts and an institution to carry on with mankind. Mine is also a love cum arranged marriage. I met my wife Sumitra Limbu in Dharan while I was there for program. She used to be a journalist and she had taken my interview. This is how we came to know each other. After three years of having affair, we decided to tie the knot.
