For party animals and discotheque regulars in the capital, DJ Tenzingis not a new name at all. For the past 18 years, Tenzing has been enthralling the audience with his tricks on the turntable. Born on 25th December in a remote village of Tapting of Solokhumbu district to Nurbu and Lhamu Sherpa, he, as admitted to us by himself, had been of a different nature right from his early days. When most of his friends, peers and relatives from his native place were busy either learning or were already involved with the the tourism industry, Tenzing had made up his mind early on to do 'something different' and came to Kathmandu to try his luck. It was while studying in Kathmandu that he met up with his friends who had been living abroad and them having told Tenzing of the amazing prospects of getting into the DJ business. A career as a DJ not only garnered respect but it was a sound financial bargain as well. This attracted Tenzing to give it a serious thought however, Djing then was completely a new thing in the country and nobody except a few die hard party goers and people who had tasted the night life abroad knew what it was all about and Tenzing was aware of this fact.
Nevertheless, Tenzing still wanted to give it a shot and when his cousin, Karma who had been residing in the US gifted him with a DJ set along with an instruction manual and a book on the basics of DJ music, did he seriously start learning to use it. So one can easily conclude that DJ Tenzing is a self taught master at what he does. Tenzing is grateful to DJ Patrick of Poland under whose guidance, he had the opportunity to learn during his trip to Nepal way back in the year 1992. Having started as a professional DJ in the year 1991 at Jolly Blues Pub, where he plied his trade till 1999 followed by a stint at Club X – zone from 1999 to 2001. From the year 2002 to 2007, he was a prominent fixture at The Rox, Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu and now he has been setting the dance floor on fire at Club Platinum. Besides his commitments at the Club circuits, he has over 1000 events and concerts already under his belt and has won the hearts of many along the way. However, Tenzing is not basking in his laurels yet. He wishes to get closer and bring his music to the masses and hence, has just released a remixed album titled 'DJ Tenzing' in the market. Comprising of old hits redone the way only Tenzing knows best, those lending their voices on the album include Reshma Sunuwar, Mandavi Tripathi, Roj Moktan, Mingma Sherpa, Rajan Ishan, Asif Shah and Jwala. Currently DJ Tenzing is busy with 'DJ Tenzing Tour' touring different parts of the country with his troupe and is confident of providing new taste of music for his fans in the days ahead. Watch out for the man and his music!
