Music and Dance performance is being held on April 9, 2009 at 6:00 pm in the auditorium of Nepal Music Center
, Kathmandu, Nepal. The event will start with musical performance by Kutumba
followed by a dance performance by NSV
students choreographed by Ms. Mahajoy Laufer
from USA who is currently a dance teacher of NSV
. Students will perform locking, popping, breaking, whacking
and freestyle elements of the dance. Students will also be showcasing ballet fusion & modern
dance. On the other hand, there will also be a collaborative performance between Kutumba
dance students choreographed by Ms. Laufer
. The event is scheduled to end with refreshment and
socialization. Nepal Music Center
is planning to do more music and dance performance in the near future as well. Every 15th
of the Nepali month the center has already started free for all, Eastern Classical Program “Sastriya Sudha
” where renowned classical musicians of Nepal perform.
On April 29, 2009 Nepal Music Center is also celebrating International Dance Day and introducing the dance faculty at Nepal Sangeet Vidhayalaya ranging from traditional folk dance to modern dance like Hip-Hop & Salsa. Nepal Sangeet Vidhayalaya, a music school established in the year 2062 BS,aims to provide formal education in music. It is probably the first ever school established with due permission from the Ministry of Education, with the given responsibility of developing curriculum for formal music education. The school is managed by Nepal Music Center, a non-profit organization situated at Battisputali, Kathmandu. Nepal Music Center, NMC in short, is a non profit entity established for carrying out its non-commercial activities in the field of music and culture. The center has, among others; the organization has four major objectives, Music education, Research, Documentation, Preservation & Dissemination of Nepalese traditional Music & Dance, Internationalization & Exchange and Promotion of creators and artist.
