Judging by the number of musical albums being released these days, one would think that the music industry in general is going great guns of late. We, at fursad.com are invited to the launch of two new albums on average every week. The fact that they do not always make it to the headlines is a different story altogether. However, there are numerous other albums being churned out on a daily basis. Like we keep saying, ‘some make it, some don’t and with due respect, some never will’. Anyway, if statistics prove us right, a minimum of eight new albums worth mentioning hits the stands every month. Logically, this would indicate that all is not too bad in the music industry, even more so because of the fact that actually, there are over a dozen albums being released every week. However, what the music fraternity, as a whole, is worried about is the trend of quantity over quality’. Pundits claim that success in music comes from a combination of talent, a lot of hard work, dedication and most importantly patience. For example, we have met quite a few emerging artists who wish to be a Sanjay Shrestha or a Nima Rumba by having stepped into the industry just a year back. Least do they realize the fact that both Nima and Sanjay have been slogging their a*** off for more than a decade or so…they still are! So the mere number of new music in the market is definitely not indicative of the standard of the music industry in Nepal. If anything…the music industry may well be at a disadvantage if this trend continues.
